(Updated) Wash. Post: Teen sex rates stall.
Missed this the other day, but Rob Stein had a good health policy counter, in the Washington Post, for the encouraging word from pollsters that teenage sex has been dropping. It is lower than it was ten or 20 years ago, it appears, but not lower now than in 2001. The political message is that this plateau in youngsters going all the way comes despite more emphasis on abstinence education. The sociological side, Stein writes, includes “the possibility that some irreducible portion of the teenage population can never be dissuaded from having sex.” Didn’t Spike Lee make a movie about that, something about “..gotta have it” ?? Sex almost always invites a giggle but Stein, it must be added, treats the topic seriously.
