Arizona Republic: Prairie dogs face rising peril and that’s good: Black-footed ferrets coming back.

The Arizona Republic runs today a nicely done piece on efforts to maintain habitat for re-introduced black-footed ferrets. At a local ranch, reporter Sonu Munshi tells us via a source, is found “a classic back-from-the-brink-of-extinction tale.” Munshi’s write-up is attributed to the Cronkite News Service, which in turn is run by the eponymous (ie Walter) School of Journalism and Mass Comm. at Arizona St. Univ. Dunno if this is by an undergrad or grad student but it is a commendably polished job. Ms. Munshi has plenty of facts and enough color to keep the eyeballs spontaneously moving down the column.

Ferrets, we read with no surprise, are not particularly dainty or gentle when it comes to prairie dog dinners, but as one source tells Munshi, “not everything in life needs to be nice to be protected.” Kind of like those wolves and polar bears in other stories tracked today.
