AP: Orangutans, a conservation group says, could be extinct in the wild soon
In the US, at least, a press release that comes out over a three-day holiday weekend can suffer a dismal fate. That may be why so little coverage emerged for a report on a genuinely dismal fate that may await the red men of the forests of Sumatra and Borneo. In the journal Oryx researchers with the Great Ape Trust in Des Moines, Iowa, and colleagues report that orangutan populations are falling fast. That’s not new news, of course, but the numbers here may be firmer than most.
