CJR’s The Observatory: Journalists missed the startup of a coal-burning power plant with integrated carbon capture and sequestration ability

On Tuesday, Curtis Brainard, who does The Observatory column at Columbia Journalism Review, took journalists to task for failing to give coverage last week to the opening of what should have been a landmark in the effort to make coal-burning power plants acceptable on a carbon-besotted planet. It’s a small Swedish facility in Germany, only 40 megawatts, but a peg if ever there was one to discuss a technology–carbon capture and sequestration–that could play a major role in the battle against global warming. It’s an excellent analysis, linking the issues to the presidential campaigns.

As Brainard links, Forbes did cover it. He also likes coverage by Lewis Smith at The Times (UK), including an editorial and an earlier article on the technology.
